In a world of flying MoonPies and flowing Champagne, Lily Abernathy, 22, would rather do just about anything other than serve as first lady in waiting on the Mardi Gras court. Carnival has brought the neurotic, socially awkward artist nothing but bad juju her entire life. Besides, she’s set on spreading her wings far away from Alabama.
On the contrary, her golden-girl identical twin, Magnolia, was born and bred to be the debutante queen that could rule over the social season and save the family’s volatile reputation. And she couldn’t be more thrilled to reign. That is until one fall from grace threatens to ruin their legacy forever.
When Magnolia can no longer fulfill her duties, the girls’ highfalutin grandmother forces Lily to cast aside her own plans and secretly step into her sister’s Manolos to cover up the faux pas. Lily struggles to parade through the gilt-edged world of glamorous parties, social climbers, and high-society scandals. At least there’s one silver lining, the nerdy, but crush-worthy king—except that her sister publicly despises him.
Meanwhile, Magnolia is secretly banished to the family’s vacation home on the scenic shores of Mobile Bay where she’s hard-pressed to confront her own inner demons. (Although not without the help of the sexy Creole groundskeeper and oyster farmer who could never fit into her well-heeled world.)
Set in the birthplace of American Mardi Gras, Mobile, Alabama, and its idyllic Eastern Shore, Redemption of the MoonPie Queens is a dual point-of-view novel chockful of sibling rivalry, scandalous family secrets, tightly-woven plot twists, charming romance, and bizarre-but-authentic Mardi Gras culture. (Not to mention Southern beaus that are hotter than microwaved MoonPies.) But, perhaps most poignantly, it’s a story of twin sisters forced to overcome their own pride and family expectations in order to find self-acceptance, fortitude, forgiveness, and, ultimately, true love.
